This week we will continue the Story by dipping our toes into the book of Acts! Here’s are a couple video recaps by the Bible Project to familiarize yourself with this wonderful book of the Bible!
Acts Chapter 1 & 2
Step 1: Read Acts Chapter 1 & 2 and take notes on what stands out to you.
Step 2: Consider answering some or all of the questions below (may these be a blessing, and not a burden)
Study Questions
1. Re-read Acts 1:4-8. What insight and instructions did Jesus give His followers concerning the Holy Spirit?
Optional: dig a little deeper and check out: Joel 2:28-32, Luke 24:46-48, Romans
8:9-11, Ephesians 3:14-20
2. Following the ascension of Christ into heaven, what did the believers do? What did the angel say to them? (Acts 1:10-11)
Optional: dig a little deeper and check out: Matthew 24:1-31, Mark 13:26
3. Why do you think God waited for Pentecost (also called the Festival of Weeks) to give the Holy Spirit? (see Deuteronomy 16: 9-12)
4. Re-read Peter’s address to the crowd in Acts 2:14-36. How would you put Peter’s
command in Acts 2:38-40 in your own words to explain what it means to become a
Christian? What is required? What is promised? How many people were added to the church when Peter spoke to the people?
5. Acts 2 is viewed as the “birth” of the Church. This is when the Holy Spirit was received, the witnessing began, and the church begins to grow. Re-read Acts 2:42-47.
Now read:
Mark 10:28-30
Matthew 12:46-50
Ephesians 4:2-6, 11-13
1 Corinthians 12:7, 12-13, 18-22, 25-26
Matthew 28:18-20
What characteristics are present in a healthy church?
Heart Questions
1. To repent and be baptized in Jesus’ name means to turn away from your sin and affirm allegiance to Jesus. Where would you say you are in this journey right now? How about other people in your circle of influence? Does anyone in particular come to mind?
2. The early believers had not a building of their own to meet in. What does this and the scriptures you read this week tell you about what the “church” really is? Where do you see elements of the “church” in your life today? What opportunity areas do you see?
